From toy box to the big screen
The Transformers started life in the 1980s as a line of Hasbro toys — robots that folded up into cars, planes and trucks — quickly backed by a hit cartoon and comic. Their slogans, 'Robots in disguise' and 'More than meets the eye', became instantly familiar to a generation of kids.
Director Michael Bay brought them to live-action cinema in 2007, using groundbreaking computer effects to make the giant robots transform on screen in dazzling detail. The films turned the heroic Optimus Prime and the lovable Bumblebee into blockbuster stars and grew into a huge action franchise.
