The holy month
RAMADAN is the holiest MONTH in the Islamic year, a time of FASTING from SUNRISE to SUNSET, and this word search gathers its meaning. You'll track down the daily rhythm โ the pre-dawn meal SUHOOR, the long day of fasting and HUNGER, and the IFTAR that breaks it after sunset.
Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the grid changes every time you play โ gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode challenge once the diagonals and backwards words appear.
Faith, patience and giving
Ramadan is about much more than food, and the words are here. It's a SPIRITUAL time of PRAYER and WORSHIP at the MOSQUE, of reading the QURAN, and of REFLECTION and DEVOTION. It teaches PATIENCE and self-control, and inspires CHARITY and GENEROSITY to others. A glowing LANTERN and the CRESCENT moon mark the nights, and every day ends with a BLESSING and DATES to break the fast.
Why Muslims fast
Ramadan is the ninth MONTH of the Islamic calendar, chosen because Muslims believe the holy QURAN was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during it. FASTING through Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam โ the core duties of the faith โ so for many it is the most special time of the whole year.
From dawn until SUNSET, adults go without food and drink, traditionally breaking the fast each evening with a few DATES, just as the Prophet is said to have done. But the fast is about far more than HUNGER: it's a time to grow closer to God, to practise PATIENCE, and to remember those with little by giving to CHARITY. Young children, the sick, the elderly and travellers don't have to fast. Because the Islamic year follows the moon, Ramadan begins about eleven days earlier each year.
