A day for dad
Father's Day is all about celebrating the special FATHER in our lives, and this word search gathers the ways we do it. You'll track down the classic gifts โ the CARD, the GIFT, the dreaded TIE or NECKTIE, a new WATCH or WALLET, and a comfy pair of SLIPPERS.
Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the day changes every time you play โ gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode challenge once the diagonals and backwards words appear.
Time together
The best gift of all is time together, and the words are here. Fire up the GRILL for a backyard COOKOUT, head out FISHING or CAMPING, potter in the GARDEN or the WORKSHOP with his favourite TOOLS, and give plenty of HUGS. It's a day to feel PROUD and THANKFUL, to call DAD or PAPA the HERO he is, and to spend it as a FAMILY.
The story of Father's Day
Father's Day is the partner to Mother's Day, and it has a touching origin. In the United States in 1910, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd โ who had been raised by her FATHER alone after her mother died โ heard a Mother's Day sermon and felt fathers deserved a day of their own too. The idea slowly caught on, and it finally became an official US holiday in 1972.
Many countries, including the US and UK, now celebrate on the third Sunday of June, though others pick different dates โ some hold it on St Joseph's Day in March. However it's marked, the day is a chance to thank DAD, PAPA or any father figure, often with a homemade CARD, a small GIFT, and best of all some time together as a FAMILY.
