Chemistry Word Search

Goggles on, let's react. Our chemistry word search hides the science of matter in one grid, from a single ATOM to a bubbling REACTION. Pick a difficulty and start mixing.

The whole periodic table of ideas in one grid

Chemistry is the science of what everything is made of, and this word search bottles up the essentials. You'll track down the building blocks β€” the ATOM, MOLECULE and ELEMENT β€” the particles inside them, from PROTON to ELECTRON, and the lab kit that brings it to life, like the BEAKER and FLASK.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so a different experiment runs every time you play β€” gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode reaction once the diagonals and backwards words appear.

What everything is made of

Everything around you β€” this screen, the air, your own body β€” is built from tiny ATOMs. There are only about 118 basic types of atom, called ELEMENTs, and they're laid out in the famous PERIODIC table. Each atom has a tight centre of PROTONs and NEUTRONs with ELECTRONs whizzing around the outside, and it's the number of protons that decides which element it is.

The real magic is how atoms join up. When they BOND together they make a MOLECULE β€” two HYDROGEN atoms and one OXYGEN make a molecule of water. In a chemical REACTION, atoms swap partners to make brand-new substances, sometimes with a fizz, a colour change or a burst of heat. Sometimes a CATALYST is added to speed things up. Understanding these rules lets chemists create everything from medicines to plastics.

A perfect fit for the classroom

Chemistry vocabulary can be tricky, and a word search is a friendly, low-pressure way to make it stick β€” a popular choice for science lessons, revision warm-ups and homework clubs. Easy mode keeps things simple for younger learners. Play online, print a PDF pack, or build your own grid with Make Your Own.

Frequently asked questions

What's in the chemistry word search?

The essentials β€” atoms, molecules, elements, reactions, lab kit and more. Each puzzle uses a fresh selection.

Does it include atoms and lab kit?

Both β€” the building blocks (ATOM, MOLECULE, ELEMENT, PROTON, ELECTRON) plus the apparatus that puts them to work, like the BEAKER and FLASK.

Is it good for a chemistry lesson or revision?

Great fit β€” a friendly, low-pressure way to reinforce key terms. Easy mode keeps things simple for younger learners.

How to play

Drag across a word, or tap its first and last letter β€” both work. Each word you find locks in with its own colour and ticks off the list, so you always know what's left to find.

Want a tougher challenge? Switch to Medium or Hard for a bigger grid with diagonal and reverse words. Stuck on one? Tap Hint for a nudge, or Solve to reveal the whole grid β€” and hit New any time for a completely fresh puzzle.
