Just how many countries are there?
Most lists count around 195 countries, spread across the seven continents — though the exact number is debated, because not everyone agrees on what counts as a country. They come in every size: RUSSIA is the largest by area, stretching across two continents, while INDIA and CHINA each have well over a billion people. The tiniest of all is Vatican City, small enough to walk across in minutes.
Countries are wonderfully different — in language, food, flags and landscape — yet they're all part of the same world. This puzzle pulls in examples from each region, from snowy ICELAND and NORWAY in the north to sun-baked EGYPT, NIGERIA and KENYA in Africa, and PERU, CHILE and ARGENTINA in South America.
