The great voices of verse
Poetry has been shaped by some truly memorable writers, and this puzzle gathers many of them. You'll be finding the Romantics WORDSWORTH, KEATS, BYRON, BLAKE and SHELLEY, the American voices FROST and WHITMAN, and modern poets like PLATH and HUGHES.
Because every new puzzle reshuffles the roll call, no two poets word searches are the same. One round a backwards WORDSWORTH hides in a corner; the next a diagonal COLERIDGE stretches across the grid.
Poets across the centuries
From classic verse to the modern day, the words are here. There's the Irish great YEATS, the Scottish bard BURNS, and famous names like TENNYSON, ELIOT, ROSSETTI, BROWNING and LONGFELLOW, plus AUDEN, LARKIN, HEANEY, CUMMINGS and NERUDA. We use surnames to keep most words short, though a few like WORDSWORTH run longer β a nice challenge for older students who already know the name.
It's a great fit for an English or poetry topic. Tracking down C-O-L-E-R-I-D-G-E turns spelling practice into a poetry lesson.
How to play
Drag across a word, or click its first and last letter β both work. Each name you find locks in with its own highlight and ticks off the list, so you always know who's left to find.
Want a bigger challenge? Switch to Medium or Hard for a larger grid with diagonal and reverse words. Stuck on one? Tap Hint for a nudge, or Solve to reveal them all.
