The Addams Family began as a set of darkly funny cartoons drawn by Charles Addams for The New Yorker back in 1938, long before they reached TV and film. Netflix's Wednesday, released in 2022, hands the spotlight to the family's deadpan daughter and sends her to Nevermore Academy, a school for 'outcasts' with supernatural gifts.
Produced by gothic film-maker Tim Burton and led by Jenna Ortega in the title role, the series became one of Netflix's biggest hits — and Wednesday's stiff, twitchy dance to a 1980s song turned into a viral sensation that fans copied all over the internet.
