Two decades at the hospital
Grey's Anatomy was created by Shonda Rhimes and first aired on the American network ABC in 2005, set at the busy Seattle hospital first known as Seattle Grace. Told largely through the eyes of surgical intern Meredith Grey — played by Ellen Pompeo — it follows a group of doctors as they climb from nervous interns to seasoned attendings.
The show blends life-or-death surgeries with tangled romances and friendships, all wrapped in Meredith's reflective voiceovers and lines like 'It's a beautiful day to save lives'. It has run for more than twenty seasons, making it the longest-running scripted prime-time drama on American television and a true pop-culture institution.
