The Big Bang Theory ran on the American network CBS from 2007 to 2019, across twelve seasons and more than 270 episodes, created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. It centred on a group of brilliant but socially awkward scientists at Caltech in Pasadena, and their friendship with the down-to-earth Penny who moves in across the hall.
Sheldon's catchphrase 'Bazinga!', his insistence on 'his spot' on the couch, and the cosy 'Soft Kitty' song became pop-culture staples. The show was one of the most-watched comedies of its era and spun off a prequel, Young Sheldon, following the character as a child genius.
