The Great War
World War I was fought across muddy battlefields by millions of SOLDIERs, and this puzzle gathers it. You'll be finding the long TRENCH lines, the famous BATTLE of the SOMME and the fortress of VERDUN, the ALLIES who fought together, and the ARMISTICE that brought the fighting to an end.
Because every new puzzle reshuffles the grid, no two World War I word searches are the same. One round a backwards BAYONET hides in a corner; the next a diagonal ARMISTICE appears across the middle.
Life and weapons on the front
The war introduced terrible new weapons and hard daily life, and the words are here. There's the SOLDIER in his UNIFORM and HELMET, the RIFLE and the new armoured TANK, the CAVALRY on horseback and the AIRCRAFT overhead, and the SUBMARINE lurking below the waves. Behind the lines a fresh RECRUIT trained under his SERGEANT, hoping to earn a MEDAL β while everyone shared the cold, wet MUD. The red POPPY became the flower of remembrance, and the fall of one EMPIRE after another reshaped the map.
It's a great fit for a history or remembrance topic. Tracking down A-R-M-I-S-T-I-C-E turns spelling practice into a lesson worth remembering.
How to play
Drag across a word, or click its first and last letter β both work. Each word you spot locks in with its own colour and ticks off the list, so you always know what's left to find.
