The land between the rivers
ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA grew up between the TIGRIS and EUPHRATES rivers, and this puzzle gathers it. Often called the cradle of civilisation, it was home to SUMER, the city of BABYLON, the kingdom of AKKAD and the mighty ASSYRIA β and to law-giving kings like HAMMURABI, whose famous code is one of the oldest sets of written rules.
Because every new puzzle reshuffles the grid, no two Mesopotamia word searches are the same. One round a backwards ZIGGURAT hides in a corner; the next a diagonal CUNEIFORM appears across the middle.
Firsts of civilisation
Mesopotamia gave the world many firsts, and the words are here. People built the first CITY and the stepped TEMPLE tower called a ZIGGURAT, invented the WHEEL, and pressed CUNEIFORM WRITING into a CLAY TABLET. Their EMPIRE grew on FARMING beside the RIVER, with a CANAL to carry water to the fields, busy TRADE between cities, and tools and treasures cast in BRONZE β all ruled by a powerful KING.
It's a great fit for an early-civilisations topic. Tracking down C-U-N-E-I-F-O-R-M turns spelling practice into a trip to the dawn of history.
How to play
Drag across a word, or click its first and last letter β both work. Each word you spot locks in with its own colour and ticks off the list, so you always know what's left to find.
