A colourful ink war
SPLATOON is a shooter unlike any other — you win by covering the floor in INK, and this word search gathers it. You'll be finding the squid-kid hero, the INKLING (and its cousin the OCTOLING), the way they switch into a SQUID or OCTOPUS to swim through their own PAINT, and the famous TURF war where the goal is simply to COVER more ground than the other TEAM.
Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the battle changes every time you play — gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode turf war once the diagonals and backwards words appear.
Weapons, gear and Splatfests
Half the fun is your kit, and the words are here. You pick a WEAPON — a paint ROLLER, a long-range CHARGER or a flicky BRUSH — to SPLAT the enemy and lay down your COLOR of INK. You dress your INKLING in cool GEAR and GOGGLES, team up for a BATTLE, and join a giant in-game festival called a SPLATFEST. It's one of the brightest, most original games NINTENDO has ever made.
Winning without firing a shot
SPLATOON, which arrived in 2015, took the usual idea of a shooter and turned it upside down. In a TURF war you don't win by 'splatting' the most rivals — you win by covering the most floor in your TEAM's COLOR of INK by the end of the round. That one twist changes everything: a nervous player can still help just by painting quietly in a corner, so it's far friendlier and less aggressive than most shooters, with bright paint instead of anything scary.
The squid-kid INKLING has a brilliant double trick: stay human-shaped to fire your WEAPON, or flip into a SQUID to dive into your own ink and swim through it at speed to refill and sneak around. Different tools suit different players — the ROLLER coats huge areas fast, the CHARGER snipes from far away, the BRUSH darts about — so teams have to mix and match. NINTENDO even runs SPLATFEST events where the whole world picks a side. Colourful, clever and welcoming, it's a big hit with younger players and a vivid puzzle theme.
