Where video games began

A few years later PACMAN became a global phenomenon — deliberately designed to appeal to everyone, not just teenage boys — and its ghost-dodging maze is still one of the most recognised games ever made.
Back then there was no saving and no ending: the machine simply got faster and harder until you ran out of lives, so the only goal was a HIGHSCORE stored on the cabinet for the next player to beat. That clever 'one more QUARTER' design, and the tiny memory of early computers (which is exactly why graphics were chunky PIXEL art), shaped gaming for decades. TETRIS, meanwhile, was invented in the Soviet Union and is now one of the best-selling games of all time.
