Baseball Word Search

Take me out to the grid. Our baseball word search hides the pitches, positions and big swings of America's pastime, from the HOMERUN to the GRANDSLAM. Pick a difficulty and step up to the plate.

The whole diamond in one grid

Baseball is a game of patience and sudden fireworks, and this word search captures both. You'll track down the big hits β€” the HOMERUN, the GRANDSLAM β€” every pitch from the FASTBALL to the sneaky CURVEBALL, and storied teams like the YANKEES and DODGERS.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so a different pitch is thrown every time β€” gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode extra-innings battle once the diagonals and backwards words appear.

How the game works

Baseball is played on a four-cornered DIAMOND. The PITCHER throws the ball and the BATTER tries to hit it, then runs around the BASES to score; make it all the way home and that's a run. Clear the whole field with one swing and you've hit a HOMERUN β€” or, with the bases full, a four-run GRANDSLAM.

Out in the field, the CATCHER crouches behind the plate, the SHORTSTOP guards the INFIELD, and fielders use a GLOVE or MITT to catch the ball. Three STRIKES and the batter is out; the UMPIRE makes the calls, and a game runs for nine INNINGS rather than against a clock.

From the bleachers to the big leagues

Often called America's pastime, baseball's top league is Major League Baseball, whose champions are crowned in the World Series. Whether you keep score by hand or just turn up for the DUGOUT snacks, this puzzle is a fun warm-up for fans and a great way for newcomers (or rounders players) to learn the lingo. Easy mode keeps the grid small with no diagonals or reverse words.
